The Best Jean Style For Your Body Type

January 26, 2015 By wpengine Leave a Comment

Finding a pair of jeans that you really like is harder than it sounds. Jeans are an essential wardrobe staple, but they have to fit you perfectly and be flattering to your body type, and that’s easier said than done. To make the decision process easier on you, here’s a list of the best styles of jeans for all different body types.

Skinny Body: Skinny Jeans. This one is easy to remember. Women with skinny frames will look best in skinny jeans, which hug the lower body and can help give it a curvier appearance. If this is your body type, count your lucky stars that you look good in skinny jeans! Many of us are jealous of you. Thin women on the tall side will do well with a high-waisted skinny jean, while shorter women should stick with a lower waist. No matter your height, stay away from jeans that are too loose-fitting–they’ll hide your natural shapeliness and make you look skinnier under all that extra fabric.

Athletic Body: Bootcut Jeans. If you’re an athlete or just have naturally muscular legs, first of all, lucky you. Second of all, you’ll definitely want to veer in the direction of bootcut or slightly flared jeans, preferably ones made from a stretchy fabric. This style of jeans will emphasize your awesome thighs and hug your knees before flaring out toward the bottom of the leg. Stay away from jeans that are super skinny or have a tapered leg, as they may over-emphasize your thighs and make you lower leg look disproportionately small.

Curvy/ Hourglass Body: Straight or Skinny Jeans. Get some stretchy jeans that hug the body to show off your natural curves. Stick with mid-rise jeans to flatter your waist. Hourglass-shaped ladies should stay away from jeans with a super low-rise, which will make the torso look shorter than it is and won’t do a good job of flattering curves. High-waisted jeans can look great on curvy women, but tread carefully: certain high-waisted jeans can emphasize the butt in undesirable ways.

Blue jeans

Apple-Shaped Body: Jeggings or Super Skinny Jeans. This choice may sound counterintuitive at first, but hear me out. Paired with the right blouse (one that comes down to at least the hips), jeggings or other tight, straight jeans can show off slim legs, while de-emphasizing the midsection. Apple-shaped women should always look for jeans that show off their legs! Just stay away from jeans that are too baggy–they’ll make you look too matronly.

Pear-Shaped Body: You’ll want to go with flared jeans with a low-rise, or trouser-style jeans– any jean with a nice loose leg. This looser leg will help create a balanced appearance. Always look for a fit that’s loose around the hips and thighs, especially.. Like women with athletic thighs, pear-shaped women should stay away from jeans that taper off at the bottom. These jeans will emphasize the hip and butt area while making the legs look skinny in an unflattering way.

Now you know which style of jeans will work best with your body type, no matter what it is. Go out, get that perfect pair of jeans, and feel beautiful!
