When you think of the denim boiler suit, what do you imagine? A car mechanic with oil on his face, and dirt under his fingernails. Or a janitor buffing the floors of a gymnasium, after the school has closed. How about one of the world’s most stylish singers, looking effortlessly cool and chic? Well if the first two scenarios are your perception of the denim boiler suit, you might want to re-evaluate.
That’s because Rita Ora was recently spotted leaving a recording studio in Hollywood, rocking a denim boilers suit, and the traditional mechanic uniform has never looked so good. But, she is not the only style icon to have been spotted working the denim boiler suit in recent weeks. Stunning British actress Jenna Coleman has also been photographed looking fashion forward in her denim all-in-one. Additionally, Jude Law’s daughter and Burberry brand ambassador, Iris Law, looked gorgeous in her indigo denim jumpsuit at London Fashion Week. Finally, model Jourdan Dunn went for a slightly different take on the trend with a short denim boilersuit that showed off her super long legs.
Furthermore, the denim boiler suit has made its way onto the catwalk, featuring prominently on the runway for Dior’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection. Surely, this must be enough to convince you that the denim boiler suit, has a place out of the maintenance cupboard.
Casual Cool
Be like Rita Ora and Jenna Coleman and take the causal approach with your denim boilersuit. Choose a looser fitting style and team with your favourite white sneakers and oversized beanie hat. For an extra on trend twist, roll up the trouser legs a few times, to show a little bit of ankle —also makes the legs look longer. Keep hair and makeup relaxed, with tousled hair and fresh makeup to keep the look youthful and contemporary.
Effortless Evening Wear
The denim boilersuit makes for a striking choice for evening wear. Since it is so far removed from the classic mini dress, or skinny jeans, it will be a real standout look. Choose a dark wash denim that isn’t distressed, and team with a statement necklace, barely there strappy high heels and a complementary clutch bag. A bold berry shade lip looks great against a dark denim, and will finish of your evening wear look to perfection.
Vintage Workwear
You have probably seen the vintage wartime posters, which depicted pin up girls of the 1940s, donning their indigo overalls and going to work in the factories to aid in the war effort. Not only were these women really inspiring, but they looked seriously stylish too. Take influence from these women by teaming your denim boilersuit with a quirky silk scarf (either worn around the head, or the neck), workwear boots or sturdy brogues, and of course, the pin up girls’ statement pillar box red lip.
Has this inspired you to give the denim boilersuit a try for 2017? We hope so, as it is such a versatile piece, that will always look chic, and never go out of style.
